Place: the amphitheatre of the opera bastillecollection: stéphane rolland celebrates 10 years of her couture.a new step for the designer who chose to showcase her dresses to the music of the pianist, claire marie le guay.a collection which is not a retrospective, but which announces a new chapter with a pure, graphic, black and white wardrobe which plays with contrasts and movements.focus on: the dresses displaying a lightness as a centre point, worked like graceful, levitating sculptures echoing the work of calder.a caped dress in black crepe with pagoda shoulders adorned with golden branches, a straight dress embroidered with a column of faces in golden oxidised silicone. the coats and jumpsuits with generous volumes. the cut-outs which leave the faces visible, embroideries on the back, and an imposing zebra print dress.to note: the finale, a vocal performance by the mezzo soprano beatrice uria monzon.interview stéphane rolland:for 10 years, this represents an incredible journey, it’s everything and nothing at the same time. so, i didn’t want to plan to do a retrospective show, i told myself, ‘let’s instead begin a new chapter’, and that’s why i did this collection at the paris opera.a lot of lightness, light movements, that’s to say that i wanted all of the embroideries to appear as if they were levitating. they hold their shape with fine metal rods. you could say that calder was an inspiration, but that’s almost the case. everything is extremely precious, you have some gold, cultured pearls, silicone with gold leaf coating, and this sense of flight. for me, flight brings a sense of freshness, lightness and movement, because there’s nothing worse than a heavy, lifeless dress. it’s necessary to bring life, because life is movement.music of the show (only to be used in the context of the show, under the protection of the right to information)
