Coming to the sophia webster presentation is always synonymous with taking a break from the shows during this london fashion week. the designer invites us to an abandoned chapel in the heart of the city, and decides to give her own definition of piccadilly circus with crazy creatures. for the shoes, we find vibrant colours and ornamentations such as the additions of beads, feathers, pompoms, sparkle, sequins and butterflies…for winter, polka-dots and black and white checks make their appearance. sophia webster as a young mother herself takes advantage of it to launch a children’s line with little ballerina flats and boots which are completely irresistible. what’s also new: the very urban trainers, in black and white, and with neon picots, that are likely to take off…to note: the detailing like these huge laces in black velvet, so chic, or all the little bags with messages on them. interview: sophia webster: i started looking at old “no doubt” albums with the very sort of ska 90s influence, the black and white checked patterns, and then that made me think of the circus, harlequin kind of prints, but then i didn’t really want to do circus in a traditional way, so i then looked a bit more to cirque du soleil and trippy kind of things, hence why we’ve got contortionists downstairs, doing all their movements, and then i started thinking how can i make this current and put my spin on it, so i thought i would do a piccadilly circus circus, so that’s what this is in here, so this is like the eros sign but it’s with my butterfly wings, and then there’s like phone boxes, buses, but i worked with shona heath the set designer, she has been amazing to work with, so we collaborated and she made the costumes as well so we pulled it all together.music from the show
